Record DSL Port Shipments Marked by Significant VDSL Deployments in Germany and the U.S., According to Dell’Oro Group

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – May 17, 2006 – According to a newly published report by Dell’Oro Group, the trusted source for market information about the networking and telecommunications industries, first quarter DSL access concentrator port shipments reached record levels for the second consecutive quarter and were 35 percent higher than the same period one year ago.

“Port shipment growth is increasingly driven by service providers upgrading to all IP networks as well as deploying higher bandwidth equipment to enable new revenue producing services such as IPTV,” said Steve Nozik, Principal Analyst for Broadband Access Research at Dell’Oro Group. “The first quarter marked the first time for significant deployments of high speed VDSL technology outside of Asia, namely in Germany and the U.S. Siemens and Alcatel deployed their IP DLSAM products with VDSL to Deutsche Telekom and AT&T, respectively,” Nozik added.

The report shows Alcatel remains the dominant supplier for overall DSL port shipments, well ahead of Huawei and Siemens which held the number two and three positions. The four leaders in the VDSL segment in the first quarter were NEC, Siemens, Sumitomo and ZyXEL.
